What if there was a New Year’s Resolution that would deepen your relationship with Jesus AND enrich your Quiet Time? I am so grateful for the many times over the years that I prioritized Scripture memory, hiding small portions of the Bible in my heart. Memorizing Scripture is a beautiful way to continually grow your walk with Christ and make Quiet Time feel more like a delight than a duty.
Memorizing Scripture helps keep Jesus close in our hearts, and forefront in our minds. Like having a strong connection with a friend based on shared memories and past experiences, having Scripture already hidden in our hearts deepens our connection with Jesus, and makes Quiet Time a richer, more enjoyable experience. A natural outcome of filling our heart and mind with Scripture is the desire for communion with ‘our Friend who sticks closer than a brother’ (Proverbs 18:24).
As we resolve to continue growing in our relationship with Jesus in 2023, memorizing Scripture will aid in this desire of our hearts. Memorizing Scripture is a way to seek Jesus with our whole heart. This, in turn, will cause our relationship with Him to grow (Jeremiah 29:15). Maybe you received a Quiet Time Companion for Christmas, and are elated to begin using this beautifully bound journal. Your Quiet Time tool and memorization can go hand in hand. Regardless of the method you choose, hiding Scripture in our hearts will make Quiet Time a richer and deeper experience. As you incline your heart towards Jesus this year, may your Quiet Time be blessed with moments of fellowship as you practice hiding God’s Word in your heart.
Many blessings on your Scripture Memory Resolution in 2023!
