Did you play hide-and-go-seek as a kid? Did you have a daring friend who would only play the game when the lights were turned off? I did. As a child I would muster up my courage to play this game along with my friends. All the while, my heart raced fast as I fumbled around in the darkness. When the light switched on, and rays of light filled the once darkened room, I would breathe a deep sigh of relief. The light showed me where all my friends were, and that all was well.
This past month, you may have made some resolutions. Perhaps you are anticipating accomplishing certain goals this year. I know Wholehearted shared many wonderful Christ-centered resolutions for us to consider! Resolutions can be excellent tools. But if we are not careful, chasing after goals can end up a lot like our childhood experiences of chasing after our friends while fumbling in the dark.
The very best goal we can make is to spend more time with Jesus. We have the Bible – God’s very words written to us – to illuminate our path. As Psalm 119:105 proclaims, “Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light on my path.” (CSB) Resolving to read the Bible will help remind us to keep our goals gospel-focused. We no longer have to live in darkness! The light switch is here! Digging into God’s Word will illuminate our path. It will help us see our day, our circumstances, and our goals clearly. Reading the Bible reveals to us that all is well.
